Popular jeweller & artist Rajiv Popley showcased a series of oil on canvas artworks titled ‘A Tribute to Salvador Dali’ on Wednesday, at the Bombay Art Society, Bandra, Mumbai. In honour of the Spanish artist, the exhibition opening was marked by Consul General of Spain Andrez Collado Gonzalez. The show has been carefully curated by famed interior designer & art curator Aakif Habib. An important part of the evening was the unveiling of an original Dali painting from 1974. In April, Rajiv’s works will be showcased in the prominent ArtExpo New York, the world’s largest fine art trade show.
“We are great lovers of culture & it gives me great pleasure to be present here to open this show which is a tribute to one of the best known Spanish Catalan artists Dali,” said Consul General of Spain Andrez Collado Gonzalez as he opened the show.
Aside from viewing Rajiv’s stunning collection, the high-light of the evening was the unveiling of an original Dali painting from 1974. Patrons were in awe to have the opportunity to view this original right here in Mumbai.
Several art lovers were present to appreciate Rajiv’s vibrant artworks. Among others there was Neetu Chandra, Parveen Dabbas & Preeti Jhangiani, Rajiv’s wife Dhanika Popley, his sister Rhea Nasta, Aakif’s wife Iram Habib, Nisha Jamvwal, Malti Jain, Sameena Khan, Talat & Bina Aziz, Sandhya Shetty, Kanchan Adhikari, Asif Zakaria, Ananya Dutta, Asif Bhamla, Avinash Gowarikar, Consul General of Ecuador & his wife Buda Cueva Jacome & Toya Cardenas Saldarriaga & Udayraj Gadnis who was seen back on the Mumbai social scene after several years in London.
Inspired by the unconventional style & sometimes outrageous artworks of the surrealist Salvador Dali, this series of oil on canvas artworks has been created by artist Rajiv Popley as a Tribute to the Master. “Surrealism is destructive, but it destroys only what it considers to be shackles limiting our vision” – Salvador Dali.
